Bridgestone Corporation is a tire manufacturer based in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.
Bridgestone is the largest tire manufacturer in the world.
The company was founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi.
Literally translated, the name of the company means “stone bridge” – a direct legacy of the company’s founder, whose surname Ishibashi means just that.
In 1988, he bought the American tire manufacturer Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
Bridgestone has 181 production facilities in 24 countries.
It owns part of the Finnish tire company Nokian.
